The Course
Main Event Site is at the base of Bear Mountain overlooking the beautiful Hudson River. Bear Mountain is perhaps the most rugged hiking terrain of the entire series. There are miles of trails leading all over the park with lots of vertical gain / loss. There are many maps available for the park, it's a good idea to pick up a good trail map with topographic features and spend some time in the park.
There is only one mt. bike trail in the whole park, it leaves from Anthony Wayne and is marked with white bike loop markers. Paddling is either on one of the many lakes in the park or on the Hudson River.

Required Gear for Adventure Race Participants
(List for EACH participant, follow links to suggested EMS Products)
Note about Maps:
Each team will receive a map from Genesis on race day with instructions and
checkpoints already plotted. It is ok and recommended (NOT REQUIRED) to look at other maps of the area prior to the event and even bring them with you on race day. It's a fact of life that not every map has every trail on it so having this
additional information can come in handy when navigating unknown terrain.
Additional maps can be found by visiting a state park office or online through
web searches. A little extra pre-race map analysis can really make a difference.
Suggested Gear
Adventure Zip-Off Pants
At Genesis, we wear these when scouting, testing and setting a course.
Sometimes, you find yourself off-trail and in the midst of heavy brush and
pickers. These pants are great because they protect your legs from scratches
and cuts and allow you to move more quickly because you re not worried about
getting cut up. The best feature is the ability to zip-off legs of pants for
changing weather/terrain conditions. Available at EMS (we've only tested the EMS brand and are delighted with the durability/functionality). Click
here for info on Men's Adventure Pants. Click
here for info on Women s Adventure Pants.

Awards
Each race has Advanced and Open categories. It's up to your team which category you compete in, we will ask you at check-in time which category you wish to race in. The Open category has all of your checkpoint plotted for you. The advanced category has extra checkpoints which must be plotted by UTM coordinates. These points add distance to the event and are typically in harder locations. Prizes are given to the top three teams in each Advanced category. Open teams do not receive prizes.
